Remove each kitten from its mother’s nest and place it on a clean cloth near the nest while you examine him or her. In many cases, tickling a kitten’s base of the tail can cause them to elevate their tail, allowing you to get a good look at their genitals. Additionally, you may gently lift their tails to get a closer view. Make certain that the place in which you’re inspecting the kittens is sufficiently warm.

If the mother cat or kitten appears to be in discomfort, place the kitten back with its mother as soon as possible. You might want to try to snap a short snapshot of the underside of each kitten’s paw so that you can examine it in greater detail after the kitten returns to its mother.

Orange kittens are more likely to be male than female, despite the fact that the relationship between color and sex is not as strong as it is in the calico/tortishell combination.

DO:

Before touching your cat’s kittens, make sure that your cat (the mother cat) is okay with you handling her babies. If kittens become disturbed as a result of handling, place them back with their mother as soon as possible In order to prevent them from being chilly, handle newborn kittens in a warm environment for no more than 5-10 minutes at a time.

• Kittens should be handled roughly. kittens should be picked up by their tails or hung by their tails (they are not mice! )
• Allow kittens to spin or twist around on their tails while you are holding their tails (this might result in tail fractures)
• Allow kittens to play with their tails while you are holding their tails If at all possible, avoid handling newborn kittens (kittens under three weeks of age). If you touch kittens too much or if your human scent gets on them, mother cats (particularly new moms) may grow wary of their new kittens and become fearful of you. It is possible that the mother cat will reject her kittens as a result of this. Handle kittens if they are still nursing (have not yet been weaned) and their mother appears to be disturbed as a result of your handling them
• Handling newborn kittens (3 weeks old) for extended periods of time is not recommended. When they are away from the nest, they might grow chilled. Male cats in their prepubescent stage are subjected to attempts to expose or pluck out their penis (cats under 6 months of age). Such animals are incapable of displaying their penis, and attempting to do so violently can result in permanent harm to the penis.

2. How to tell the difference between a male and a female kitten. Female kittens should be placed on their stomachs on a warm (not hot) cloth, with their tails gently lifted and their genitals examined. Male kittens should be examined the same way. When sexing kittens, there are various distinctions that may be observed between male and female kittens, even newborn kittens, that you should be on the lookout for. 1. Measure the distance between the kitten’s anus and its genitals (see illustration) (vulva in females and penis in males).

• In these two photographs, you will observe that the distance between the anus and thepenis of the young male cat (image 1) is a substantially bigger distance than the distance between the anus and the vulva of the young female kitten (image 2).

• Look at the form of the kitten’s genital hole to determine its size (vulva or penis).
• A close-up look at the genitalia of two separate 3-week-old kittens may be seen in these photographs.
• Observe how the genital opening (penis or penis sheath opening) of the young male kitten (image 1) is formed like a little round dot, but the female kitten’s (image 2) genital opening (vulva) is fashioned like a vertical slit, as shown in the next two photographs.
• From around 10-12 weeks of age, a swelling scrotal sac should be noticeable in male cats.

In male kittens and cats, it is positioned between the anus and the penis of the male reproductive tract.

However, as the kitten grows older (10 weeks or more) and its testicles begin to enlarge, the scrotal sac begins to protrude outwards and become very obvious.

Due to the modest size of its testicles and the fact that its scrotum has not yet fully formed, the scrotal sac of this 3-week-old male cat is not readily apparent.

The scrotum (the part of the body that rests on the pink surgical swabs) is well-developed and quite visible, with two side-by-side, separate lumps inside it that correspond to the two testicles: this is the genital area.

If you observe a cat with these genital characteristics, it is almost certainly a male.

Just prior to the kitten’s birth, the testicles of male kittens descend into the scrotal sac and are removed.

For example, even though there was no scrotum visible in the three-week-old male kitten seen above, the testicles were plainly palpable in the scrotal area of the animal.

It should be possible to feel two smooth, oval, little items (about 3-5mm diameter in a 3-week old kitten) beneath the skin of the scrotal sac region between your fingers if the kitten is a male.

When you can’t see the genitals of a cat, you can’t sex it. This is especially true for male cats. Cats have some degree of sexual dimorphism, with the degree of dimorphism varying from breed to breed and from individual to individual.

2. Their foreheads are often wider and broader than their sisters’, and their cheekbones are typically blockier than their sisters.
3. A male cat who has been neutered at an early period in his growth will have a significantly less “masculine” appearance than a male cat who has been neutered later in life or who is still a full animal.

Other Physical Characteristics

There are a few other physical traits of an adult cat that can be used to determine the gender of the animal. One of these is the presence of coloration. However, although some colors are found in equal proportions in both males and females, some colors are not seen in either. Cats with tortoiseshell or calico patterns are almost invariably female. A tortoiseshell cat, for example, has fur that is a combination of several different colors that is mixed together rather than separated as in a tabby (calico).

• Cats with XXY chromosomes are more likely than not to be born with tortoiseshell or calico markings, but this is extremely unusual.
• These one-of-a-kind tiny creatures are one of few thousand in the world.
• Male cats are often larger and stockier in build than female cats.
• They may also be substantially heavier than previously thought.
• It is important to note that the size variation between breeds is frequently substantial.

Gender and Behaviour

The gender of a cat may also have an impact on its behavior. Male cats as a whole can be more aggressive, having a proclivity to spray the environment in which they live. They are more prone to escaping and wandering around, often vanishing for extended periods of time. Females that have not been spayed may ultimately go into heat, which will cause them to behave inappropriately in a variety of situations. They will frequently attempt to flee more aggressively, especially if there is a male cat present.

1. These distressed yowls are attracted to toms, but they may be quite distressing to people.
2. She may come into contact with people and items more frequently.

Examining a cat’s genitals is the only way to establish its gender with any degree of accuracy. This is easier to accomplish with older cats. For those unfamiliar with kittens in their infancy, identifying males and females can be difficult without prior knowledge of their characteristics. To get a good look at the cat’s genitals, you’ll need to carefully lift the tail. If the cat is comfortable and willing to be handled, this should be a straightforward procedure. In order to avoid dropping the cat if things don’t go well, it’s a good idea to sit down with the cat on your lap while you’re working.

Cats are known to naturally elevate their tails when faced with this situation.

Wrapping the cat with a towel or blanket may be essential in some cases.

Additionally, the testicles will be seen in a complete tom.

An anus and a vagina are the only organs found in a female cat.

Your veterinarian will be able to tell you whether or not the cat is old enough for the treatment.
